Cevaa regional seminar for Europe at Torre Pellice

From February 13 to 15, 2024, the Cevaa Regional Seminar for Europe was held in Torre Pellice under the theme Inhabit Creation differently , Inhabit Creation differently a theme that will serve as a basis for reflection starting in 2023 and for the next five years. The proceedings were led by Omer Dagan, executive secretary of Cevaa’s Youth and Animation Division, in the presence of delegates from France, Switzerland, and Italy, represented by Jessie Delaurenti (youth), Nataly Plavan (church), and the writer (women).

Starting with the words "dwelling" and "creation", we reflected on their etymological meaning and in the light of biblical texts, to arrive at their actualization in daily life and good practices to be implemented. The actualizations took the form of animations, for example on CO2 emissions. To give you an idea, the optimum result would be to produce 2 tonnes per person per year. At present, we're at 10 tonnes per person per year. It turned out that the revolution will come about through women, who in many cases have already adopted good consumption habits, such as reusing clothes.

Various animation techniques were used during the seminar, including the climate fresco technique, with cards representing various situations affecting climate, populations and climate change, starting with human action. This animation technique requires a certified facilitator. Another suggested animation was to imagine meeting the descendants of the year 2224 (7 generations after ours) and asking them questions about how the earth was left to them, and vice versa asking them what good deeds were done by our generation to safeguard creation. And this certainty and hope need to be shown to others, through prayer, Bible reading, joint building. Churches can have the most significant experiences not within themselves, but on their periphery.

Churches are already aware that they have been entrusted with the mission of preservation, and several are already in the process of obtaining "Green Rooster" certification in Italy too. How should we deal with creation? With humility, responsibility, sobriety, moderation, respect, hope, care, gratitude, but humanity feels like a quasi-god, subjugating all creation, even though it is only a small being in relation to the universe. The group visited the Torre Pellice museum and had the pleasure of meeting Michel Charbonnier, Lucilla Coïsson, Laura Nisbet, Marie-France Maurin and Renato Coïsson from the Groupe Missions - Cevaa in Torre Pellice.
